The development of refractory industry is closely related to the amount of mineral resources in China. Bauxite, magnesite and graphite are three major refractory materials. China is one of the three largest bauxite exporters in the world, magnesite reserves are the first in the world, and graphite export countries. Rich resources have supported China's refractories through a decade of rapid development.




At the same time, there are many refractory enterprises in China. Their scale, technology, control technology and equipment level are uneven. Advanced production methods coexist with backward production methods. The overall level of cleaner production in the industry is not high, and the task of energy saving and emission reduction is arduous.




With the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, China will accelerate the elimination of backward and high energy consumption and production capacity. The industry will focus on developing and promoting new energy-saving kilns, developing comprehensive energy-saving technologies, developing energy management, emission control of "three wastes" and recycling of "three wastes". According to the Policy for the Development of Refractories Industry, the consumption of refractories per ton of steel in China's iron and steel industry is about 25 kilograms, which will drop to less than 15 kilograms by 2020. In 2020, China's refractory products with longer life, more energy-saving, pollution-free and functionalization have been greatly improved. The products meet the needs of national economic development, such as metallurgy, building materials, chemical industry and emerging industries, and increase the technological content of export products.




Refractories are used in iron and steel, non-ferrous metals, glass, cement, ceramics, petrochemical, machinery, boilers, light industry, electric power, military industry and other fields of national economy. They are essential basic materials to ensure the production operation and technological development of the above industries, and play an irreplaceable role in the development of high-temperature industrial production.




Since 2001, driven by the rapid development of high-temperature industries such as steel, nonferrous, petrochemical and building materials, the refractory industry has maintained a good growth trend, and has become a major producer and exporter of refractories in the world. In 2011, China's refractory production accounted for about 65% of the world's total refractory production and sales ranked first in the world.




The output of refractory raw materials and products increased steadily from 2001 to 2010, of which the output at the end of the 10th Five-Year Plan was about twice that of 2001. In 2010, the national output of refractory products reached 2808060,000 tons, about three times that at the end of the 10th Five-Year Plan. By 2011, China's refractory industry had 1917 enterprises with more than 300,000 employees, with sales revenue of 33.7679 billion yuan and sales profit of 47.737 billion yuan.




However, due to the low level of disorderly mining and processing technology, the low level of comprehensive utilization of resources and serious waste, the above mineral resources, especially high-grade refractory raw materials resources, have become less and less, so it is urgent to save resources and make comprehensive use of resources.
